Web series logline: During the 2020 COVID shutdowns, friends Tapala (Onicia Muller) and David (Devin Whitlock) are forced to take their volunteering efforts online, they question the politics and morals of the organization they promised to raise funds for. One is more bothered by this than the other.

Onicia’s parents are pleased that years of art classes with Caribbean Artist, Poet & Storyteller, Ruby Bute enabled her to animate with web series.
Nonprofitable is Onicia first attempt at drawing using digital mediums. She did not have a stylus or scanner. All she had was a traditional computer mouse, Microsoft PowerPoint 2016, and over a decade of experience creating dynamic slide presentations for corporate and nonprofit clients.

Episode Guide
Nonprofitable episode 1: “Team Meeting”
David and Tapala meet for their weekly post-meeting hangout. This time, things are tense between the new friends. People’s Heart, the nonprofit they volunteer with, isn’t doing the work they expected it to and the volunteering fundraising demands places strains on their personal relationships. Is this the beginning of the end for Tapala and David or the start to building deeper bonds?
Nonprofitable episode 2: “Karin’s Pool”
Despite knowing the seriousness of the COVID-19 virus, the executive staff at People’s Heart doesn’t seem interested in solving real societal problems. In fact, one of its fat cat board members is constructing a swimming pool and hoarding essential supplies. Tapala now realizes that there might be worthier causes. Can David convince her to stay on and give them a reason to remain active friends?
Nonprofitable episode 3: “Socially Distant Fundraiser”
Quarantine? Social distancing? The executive team at People’s Heart doesn’t care about that; they’re focused on raising funds and finding tax write-off for their new pool. David has convinced Tapala to keep volunteering but this new pool party fundraising event has them questioning whether this “good cause” is worth risking their health.
Nonprofitable Episode 4: “Pyramid Scheme”
Donations are not where they should be, so Executive Director Morgan has called for an all-hands virtual meeting where she presents a pyramid-like fundraising scheme. However, insensitivity to current economic and health issues and one too many micro-aggressions towards POC volunteers, causes the meeting to go off the rails making several volunteers mad enough to quit People’s Hearts for good!
Nonprofitable Episode 5: “The Dam Bursts”
The dam has burst and we’re not sure where things stand between David and Tapala. COVID-19 is very much still a thing so is the annoying incipient and insensitive leadership team at People’s Hearts. Can David convince Tapala to return? Can their friendship recover? Tapala and David are good people; will they ever find a truly good cause to support?
Character Bios:
David: A single, middle aged man with a dead-end job who went back to school for one class and found People’s Hearts at a volunteer drive. He’s continued to volunteer as a way to meet people, but has been largely unsuccessful. Very lonely.
Tapala: A new mom in search of community and an identity outside of motherhood. When People’s Hearts starts demanding endless Zoom meetings and meaningless work-from-home assignments, she questions the worthiness of this nonprofit.
